How to Install and Uninstall WooCommerce [Step by Step Tutorial]

WooCommerce is an open source e-commerce plugin for WordPress that allows user to sell anything. It is designed for small to large-sized online merchants using WordPress.

Minimum Requirements For Installation

  • PHP version 5.2.4 or greater (PHP 7.2 or greater is recommended)
  • MySQL version 5.0 or greater (MySQL 5.6 or greater is recommended)

Server Recommendations

The first step in setting up your WooCommerce-powered online store is to install WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin itself. But before doing so, you should check your hosting environment. As a guide, we recommend:

  • PHP version 7 or greater
  • MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greater
  • WordPress memory limit of 128 MB or greater
  • HTTPS support

Installation of WooCommerce:

There are two types of Installation Procedure.

  1. Automatic Installation
  2. Manual Installation

Automatic Installation:

For regular WordPress handlers automatic installation is the easiest option to activate WooCommerce.

1.   Just follow the following step by step procedure:First log in to your WordPress Admin Panel and then go to Plugins >> Add New.

2.  A search box will appear. In the search field type “WooCommerce” and click “Search Plugins”.

3.  When the plug in will appear just click on “Install Now” to install it.

4. When you will click on “Install Now” you will be asked whether you are sure to install the Plugin.

5. Just click on “Yes” without thinking anything and WordPress will automatically complete the installation.

6. Now you have to activate the plugin by clicking on the “Activate Plugin” link.

Manual Installation:

Here are the step step procedure for Manual Installation.

1.  First Download the Plugin to your Computer/Laptop from Here.

2. Once the download will complete, go to the WordPress Admin Panel >> Plugins >> Add New >> Upload >> click “Browse…” and choose the downloaded file. Then click “Install Now“.

3. Once the installation will complete, activate the plugin by clicking on the         “Activate Plugin” link.

4.  Another option is to install the WooCommerce plugin by uploading it to your webserver using your favorite FTP application.

To do this, upload the unzipped plugin folder to your WordPress installation’s wp-content/plugins directory.

After you have installed the plugin, you can activate it under WordPress Plugins >> Installed Plugins.

Uninstalling of WooCommerce:

The first step of the uninstall process is to remove the WooCommerce plugin and associated files. Here are the procedure:

    1. First go to your WordPress Dashboard.
    2. Click Plugins screen.
    3. Find and select WooCommerce.
    4. Then click Deactivate. [ Keep in mind If you deactivate and delete the plugin from WordPress, you only remove the plugin and its files. Your settings, orders, products, pages, etc… will still exist in the database]

If you wish to remove a WordPress Plugin permanently:

    1. Check the WordPress Plugin instructions in the Details readme file on how to properly uninstall the Plugin.
    2. If the WordPress Plugin required the addition of code to the WordPress Theme, manually edit the Theme files to remove it.
    3. Deactivate the Plugin and remove it manually through your FTP program.
      1. Login to the site via your FTP Program.
      2. Go to the WordPress Plugins Directory and find where the Plugin is installed.
      3. Delete the WordPress Plugin folder and/or files from your server.
