WooCommerce Klarna Payments – Beginners Guide

Klarna Gateway is a plugin of WooCommerce that allow you to take payments via Klarna. Klarna gateway contains several different payment methods like KCO and KPM. KCO = Klarna Checkout and KPM = Klarna Payment Method (invoice & part payment).

  • Klarna payments work only in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany, Austria, the Nederlands, UK & US.
  • You need an agreement with Klarna for each country and payment method you plan to sell to/with.
  • WooCommerce 3.0 or higher version
  • PHP 5.6 or higher version
  • A SSL Certificate is required for UK & US user.

Recommended WooCommerce settings

  • You must have to enable pretty permalinks in your WordPress installation. Otherwise the callbacks from Klarna will back to your store won’t work and orders will not be updated with the correct order status/information.
  • To get the total order to match between WooCommerce and Klarna you need to configure WooCommerce to display prices with 2 decimals.

Installation of Klarna

→ Download the latest release zip file and unzip.

→ If you use the WordPress plugin uploader to install, skip these first three step.

→ Upload the entire unzip file to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.

→ Now activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu as Administrator.

→ Then go to WooCommerce > Settings > Checkout and configure your Klarna settings.

Configuration of Klarna

→ Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Checkout > Klarna Payments

→ Enable Klarna Payments by checking the Enable Klarna Payment checkbox.

Enter the title in the Title field for the payment method displayed in the checkout and order confirmation emails

In the Description field enter the description of the payment method displayed in the checkout page.

→ Product URLs – Put tick on the checkbox if you want to send product and product image URLs to Klarna.

→ Logging – Logging events in the module. Log can be found by navigating to, WooCommerce → System Status → Logs.

→ Test mode – Put tick on the checkbox if you make purchases using a test account.

→ What is Klarna link – Put tick on the checkbox if you want to float the What is Klarna link to the right.

Country settings for Klarna

Based on your store base location and the countries you are selling to, you will use one or both of all sections like the screenshot. By adding merchant credentials to a specific region (Europe or the United States) you also enable Klarna Checkout as an available payment method for that region. Please keep in mind that you need an agreement with Klarna for each region enabled.

→ Production username – This is the username that you received from Klarna.

→ Production password – The password that you received from Klarna

→ Test username – The username for test purchases that you received from Klarna (if you have applied for a test account).

→ Test password – The password for test purchases that you received from Klarna (if you have applied for a test account).

Klarna Color settings

Color settings section allow you the possibility to alter the appearance of the Klarna Checkout iframe displayed in the checkout. Here you can change background colors, button colors, text colors etc.

Troubleshooting

If Klarna Payments isn’t properly displayed as an available payment method in checkout page make sure that the countries you have entered Klarna Payment credentials for customer billing country and that selected currency matches with that country.

Go live

When the installation will complete and you are ready to go live you need to contact Klarna integration support. Klarna will then verify the integration before your shop goes live.
